Green Foodservice Alliance

The Green Foodservice Alliance is a collaboration of the Georgia Restaurant Association, American Culinary Federation ~ Atlanta Chapter, Georgia Organics and the Georgia Grown program at the Department of Agriculture.  Our mission is to create and implement Sustainable Best Practices in the foodservice industry.  Our two task forces, the Green and Producer’s, are committed to action and making a difference.

“It has brought together constituents from a wide array of organizations across the industry, uniting purveyors with purchasers and producers with chefs. As if that wasn’t enough, it has garnered the enthusiasm and support of our State & Local Governments.”

Ron Wolf, CFBE
Chief Executive Officer, Georgia Restaurant Association

Green Taskforce

Mission

Incorporate environmental conservation and sustainability practices into the daily operations of Georgia foodservice establishments.

Scope

The Task Force is focused on educating and promoting legislative change with the result of increasing energy efficiency, reducing the use of chemical products, incorporating recycling and the use of natural, non-toxic cleaning & sanitation supplies into foodservice establishments.

Activities

• Research: Identify the specific roadblocks to incorporating environmentally responsible practices into the foodservice industry. Evaluate the successful programs of current green restaurants and design plans to implement their application.

• Education: Create presentations for chefs, restaurant owners & staff and foodservice partners about how to create a healthy, sustainable work environment. Topics include replacing old dishwashers, walk-in refrigerators & freezers with more efficient appliances, installing energy saving lighting and encouraging the following at work – recycling, composting, use of recycled materials and non-toxic cleaning & sanitation supplies.

• Promotion/Lobbying: Identify foodservice partners and advisors to actively pursue legislation regarding subsidies, pre-approved equipment, tax rebates, etc. based on the needs and budgets of the Georgia foodservice industry.
